One step closer!

17 June 2011

So, I’m on target and have finished the 10 tracks for my new album ‘Lesson One’  this week and am ready for the next stage of mixing and mastering (see links if you’re curious what that means) which I’ll get into when I get back from Bali on the 25th as I have to leave Australia for a few days to get my visa active over here.  Luckily I’ve been offered the use of a tasty studio down the road from where I am at the moment by Russell at Collins Music. Without this offer I’m not sure how I’d move forward as with a zero budget options are limited so a massive thank you to Russell for his offer is in order! Cheers mate you are a star.

All in all it shouldn’t be too long before I can announce the release of this record. I just need to sort out the artwork which I am unsure of so far and have had a few knock backs from different artists. I’ll see about borrowing a camera and perhaps pick a good location for some shots but if anyone out there has any artwork or knows of anyone who might be interested please get in touch through this website.

I’m really looking forward to getting this record out and a lot has happened since I started it. I have to say it’s really not easy doing it alone with nothing to invest but time and of course the few thousand it cost to buy the mics, PC and software. I have tried to get people/labels etc involved along the way but it seems for whatever reason not to have come to anything although there have been near misses. I do think it is for the best this way for me though as I’ve learned massively along the way having read many ‘how to’ articles and watched a whole bunch of recording tip videos on youtube. I’ve wondered at times how I’ll ever get it done but at least this way I own it and after the experience I had with the last record that means a lot!! That’s another story but let me just say there are selfish people out there who are only interested in there own gain no mater how it effects the people they use to get what they want. I’ll go into that in more detail another time with that one.

Anyway thing’s are looking good and moving forward so I’ll let you know when it’s ready for your ears.

Much love

Back on track

09 June 2011

Ok so I’ve got my studio bits back from repair now and the insurance covered it so I’m back in the game and working on getting this record finished. I’m hoping to have it ready for mixing and mastering before I have to go to Bali on the 21st of June to get my Aussie visa in action. That way I should be able to get it ready for release as soon as I get back. I’ll keep you posted.

Peace

Good News/Bad News

13 May 2011

For those who are interested I have some good and bad news updates. Firstly the good news is that all of my recording gear has finally arrived from the UK to Australia so theoretically I should be able to finish the tracks I’ve been recording for my album (which I think I’ll call ‘Lesson One – Demos and Improvs’ or something to that effect). The bad news is that having tested the electrical stuff it would appear some of it is broken and unfortunately two of the broken items are the most critical ie – my mixer and my speaker amp. Fortunately I’m insured but it could take some time before I get them fixed or replaced. In the mean time I’ll do my best to find a solution and get this thing done but can’t give a date as yet. Boooo!!!!

I’ll let you know when I can.

Peace X

Update/Gigs

30 January 2011

So, I’ve not had a massive response on finding someone with a studio to help with the finishing touches to the album and it seems my Belgian buddies are too busy and won’t have time before I move to Australia at the beginning of next month. None the less the show must go on and I’ve found a drummer who’s up for recording on the tracks that need it so I’ll give it my best shot at recording them in my flat before I leave. I’ve not got an abundace of mics and perhaps the ones I have aren’t right for the job but I heard some of Stevie Wonders early drum takes were recorded with two condenser mics so if it’s good enough for Stevie it good enough for me.  We’ll see how it sounds! I’m still well excited about this record and can’t wait to put it out there.

There are some things cooking behind the scenes and although I can’t say too much I may have some help when I reach Australia that will give me the means to finish this album off and give it a proper launch. Nothing in stone yet but it could be promising.

On the flip side while I’m still in sunny London I will be doing some shows before I leave. One over West London and one North East. No dates yet but I’ll know in the next few days and send a post out. I hope you’ll be able to come down folks as it’ll be my last shows in London for some time………Maybe ever.

Cheers

Fan video response to Kris Buckle podcast request. Make your Move video by Jen Fraser

12 January 2011

Hey folks,
Some of you might remember a while back during the period I was uploading my song a week I asked if any of you would make a slide show or video of some sort so that I could upload the tracks to youtube with more than just a static image. Well I had one response from Deetta Marie who made this sweet slide show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ey22vTZcUc and yesterday I received this from Jen Fraser who really went to town and has made a full video roping in friends to act and everything. Fantastic stuff Jen your efforts are muchly appreciated!!!
Anyone else up for the challenge? It would be great to change the static images I have at the mo to something more interesting.
Thanks

Back in a few months!

28 November 2010

I’m disappearing for a while folks. Entering deeply into a zone. A zone where phones don’t ring, doors and curtains remain closed and beards get very long. This is me hanging a ‘do not disturb’ or ‘back in a few months’ type note on my imaginary internet door. I’ll see you on the other side when the album is finished. …

Here’s some sounds in my absence:

Podcast break! Album announcement.

15 November 2010

Hey,

So I mentioned this the other day on twitter but for those who didn’t catch it here’s an update. I’m on tour at the moment playing some guitar in Liam Baileys band. I’ve been listening to my demo’s on the bus and have decided that instead of releasing and Ep I’m going to put an album together as I think I have enough material to do it and the demo’s sound massive so I’m really excited. I’ve got roughly 12 tracks I need to record and have made the decision to give the podcast a rest for a bit in order to free up the time to record the album. As you know I’m unsigned so I’ll be putting it together in my spare time and need to free up as much as possible. I personally can’t wait to hear the finished product.

Also, I’m well into the idea of printing the finished album up on vinyl. I love that stuff and know that there’s a lot of folks out there like myself. The only thing is that most companies I’ve found that press vinyl have a minimum order. I’m not sure how many I’d sell so I’d like to get an idea of how many folks out there would like a copy of my next album on vinyl? I think the best thing to do also would be to give a copy of mp3’s or wave files away free with every copy sold so you’d still be able to stick it on your mp3 player or burn a CD but have the luxury of a lovely 12″ record with artwork in full. Sounds good to me.

Anyone who’d like to buy a vinyl copy of my next release leave a comment here on my website so I can get an idea of the figures.

Here’s that taster demo again:

Thanks muchly

Podcast week 12 Don’t look down by Kris Buckle

07 November 2010

OK Folks,

Here’s my post roast Sunday track for you. Just cooked it up after dinner. I would have put it up sooner but I recorded the whole thing with the mic round the wrong way. I thought there was something wrong with my computer but no… it was me being stupid. Anyway I recorded it again and here’s the result.

Don’t look down

Carry on – carry well – take the load – we have only a number now. A number of years to share – don’t fall – be well.

Carry on – don’t look down – nothings burned – this is only a broken heart – Still there are years to share – be well.

Don’t look down the fires burning Keep yourself away from the embers they -won’t keep from burning. Keep yourself away from them.

Nothings gone – nothings changed – carry on -we’re still learning – don’t look down it’s only a number now – to share – be well.

Don’t look down the fires burning Keep yourself away from the embers they -won’t keep from burning. Keep yourself away from them.

Ohh………..

Don’t look down the fires burning Keep yourself away from the embers they -won’t keep from burning. Keep yourself away from them.

Thanks

Free song podcast week 11 ‘Making ends meet’ by Kris Buckle

02 November 2010

Hey Folks,

Firstly for best results listen loud preferably in headphones!!

So, I had a gig to prep for last week on top of the old 9 to 5 and the the gig was on Saturday so I didn’t get a chance to sort my song for the week out. I also confess I did go out Saturday night to a Halloween bash and didn’t come home till Sunday morning so I slept most of Sunday but you gotta live though hey! This week is busy for me too as I’m trying to finish a track for this company to use on their website so I’ve really struggled to fit this in but I wanted to upload something rather than nothing and this is what we’ve got. Those of you who also do the 9 to 5 grind should relate to the lyrics.

Vocally I have to say I’m still getting used to singing in lower registers but there’s something about it I like. I could have done with a few days to nail this one but I only had a few hours so I’ve put my hang ups aside and just gone for it here. I just hope people read these little posts I put up so they know what this is all about. It’s a song a week experiment! These are not singles or polished works they are spontaneous tracks written weekly and posted for you to hear in their naive little way. This is one I’ll definitely revisit and nail in the future.

Oh and yes it seems I’ve made up a word. Undefining!

‘Making ends meet’

Flowers fall and leaves on the ground blow by. Winter calls and birds to the south they fly. The night and the morning are just the same. Days seem to fly and I- cherish the sunlight I see as it-

Tip toes by the window that I sit at everyday just making ends meet and filing away – everyday.

Rivers flow cold and the ground becomes sparkled over night. Mist in the wind blows and the days become shorter as they fly – into the earning – and out of the day I – Cherish the sunlight I see as it -

Tip toes by the window that I sit at everyday just making ends meet and filing away – everyday.

Days – my days intertwining – as I spend the most of them doing the same. Days – my days undefining – as I spend the most of them watching the sun -

As it tip toes by the window that I sit at everyday just making ends meet it tip toes by the window that I sit at everyday just making ends meet and filing away – everyday.

Thanks

Podcast week 10!!! Happy in my shoes by Kris Buckle

24 October 2010

Happy in my shoes by Kris Buckle

Hello hello,

Week 10 folks! It’s a mile stone which I may celebrate with a Guinness a little later although I do need to crack on with my Ep. I hope you all got a chance to pass around that Ep video taster I sent out . If not take a couple of minutes out today for your old mate Master Buckle and spread the word a little.

So I put today’s song together yesterday and when I got the idea at about 5pm I thought I’d sail through it but that wasn’t the case and I think I finally got the finished take at about 11pm. The melody came quite quickly but lyrically in the early stages I have a tendency to stick a word per note which I did with this and there was no room to breath so I had to spend a lot of time thinning out. I got there in the end though and I have to say I’m well pleased with this one. All be it a bit negative ranting about not really not getting what you want out of life but we can’t be happy all of the time can we. Best to get these things out of your system.

Here’s the lyrics:

In my shoes

I’m not leaving and – I’m trying I’m – Not leaving but – It’s driving away my desire I hoping this won’t take too long.

I’m not living I’m – Just breathing I’m – Not living and – It’s taking away from the fire. I’m hoping this won’t carry on.

Here in my head I’ve been trying too long. Hoping for change and carrying on. Here in my head I am still holding on and I hope you’ll be happy – I hope you’ll be happy in my shoes.

I’m dreaming and – I’m somewhere else – I’m climbing and – I’m reaching away from the ground. I’m hoping this will carry on.

Here in my head I’ve been trying too long. Hoping for change and carrying on. Here in my head I am still holding on and I hope you’ll be happy – I hope you’ll be happy in my shoes.

I’m loosing – not winning – I’m loosing strong. x2

And I hope you’ll be happy – I hope you’ll be happy – I hope you’ll be happy in my shoes.

Thanks
